A scenic, intermediate-level trail with water crossings and rock crawls, suitable for slightly modified vehicles.
This event has ended.
RCLUB's Off-Road crew is heading to Pencil Lake!
This trail is best suited for 4x4 vehicles with 10"+ of ground clearance or some underbody protection.
Trail Description
Pencil Lake trail is basically one of the only trails open to 4X4 use east of the 507 hwy. Back in the 1990's the Ontario government formed the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park which completely shut down dozens of excellent trails east of the 507 hwy. Pencil Lake trail runs across the northern boundary of the park so stay to the north when travelling this trail. Signs are posted for the park so use caution when navigating, stay on the GPS track provided.
This trail is an excellent beginner to intermediate trail which caters to slightly modified vehicles. Containing lots of rock and hard bottomed water holes, the second big water crossing is approx. 300' with lots of rocks in water, so a slow and easy crawl gets it done.
2/3rds of the way across the trail there is a fun rock climb on the north side for the more advanced. After completing this trail you can exit via the north or the south via fire access roads or if travelling west along the trail you can exit via 507 or take on the Picard lake trail.
